Tamper-evident provenance for disputes and due diligence
When authorship or ownership is contested, the quality of the record decides the case. Attesian produces provenance that is append-only, cryptographically signed, and independently timestamped — a record whose integrity can be demonstrated rather than asserted.
Because history is only ever added to, and every certificate commits to a signed fingerprint anchored daily and timestamped via OpenTimestamps, a record's state as of a given date can be shown without relying on Attesian to vouch for it.
Evidence that stands on its own
Signatures, a hash-chained ledger, and daily anchoring mean a record's integrity is independently verifiable — not dependent on trusting the registry operator.
A defensible chain of custody
Ownership and custody events form an ordered, unbroken sequence. Gaps are shown as gaps rather than papered over, which is exactly what scrutiny rewards.
Privacy that survives erasure
Personal data can be erased on request under UK GDPR without breaking the verifiability of the record — the chain still checks out after a party is anonymised.

- Can Attesian prove a work is authentic?
- Attesian proves what the record says and that it hasn't been altered — who attested to what, and when. Authenticity is a conclusion drawn from that evidence and from expert opinion; the registry makes the evidence trustworthy and hard to fabricate.
